Question of the week

Question of the Week: Are we liberal or conservative?
Last weekend I was invited to an informal gathering in our neighborhood. The gathering was aimed at introducing an organization that one of my friend’s brothers happens to be heading up. This is a nonpartisian, non-profit leadership program. However, the conversation quickly turned to politics. In the room were Brian Leshon, chair of the Ventura County Democratic Party, and Ferial Masry, who is running for the California 37th Assembly District (see my nice iPhone picture of them to the left?). I soon figured out that the majority of the people at the gathering seemed to be Democratic-leaning. I, like many people, have been under the impression that it’s difficult to find a whole roomful of Democrats and/or liberal-leaning people out here! I made a joke about it and Leshon politely set me straight. Apparently, there are now 13,000 more Democrats in Ventura County than there are Republicans. (In 2006, there were 16,000 more Republicans.) In fact, Leshon said if you really want to see a whole lot of area Democrats, visit the Ventura County Democrats Spring Fling, BBQ and Candidates’ Forum, Sunday, May 23rd, at Conejo Creek Park (behind the Thousand Oaks library). Tickets are still available. But here’s my question of the week for you…Do you believe it? Is the tide changing for this area? Do you feel a more Democratic and/or liberal-leaning vibe in the air?

I hope so!
Based on the outcome from Republican rule, the living nightmare of a decrepit economy, lousy justice system (thanks Supreme Court for some of the worst conservative driven decisions EVER proposed and passed), preposterous immigration law (ala la-la-la-lame AZ), huge deficit and not to mention stupid war which last week counted it’s 1,000th fallen soldier. I’d say, it was bound to happen. AND, I don’t even identify with the Demicats (sp error on purpose) …both parties suck, they are just the lesser evil and, at the very least, socially liberal.
I would LOVE to believe…no more behind the Ventura Curtain??
There may be more Democrats now but the Republicans still seem to control local politics. What gives?
Well if this is the case, then the Democrats should be stepping up to the plate in the November 2010 election.
Great picture of Masry and Leshon.
Best wishes to them both . . . New leadership all the way around. . . Hazel
